Yesterday saw an enthralling league final where the U16 boys took on Cill Dara on the back pitch in Energia Park. Things couldn't have gotten off to a better start for the Salmo boys with Ruairi Fox going over the line within the first minute, which Philip Moore converted. It was all Cill Dara for most of the half but for all their possession, they were only able to add 10 points. Salmo were unlucky not to go into half time in front when they scored at the last play only for it to be brought back for a double movement in the build up.
We started the second half just like we did the first, with a quick try. David Cron looked as if he was going to go into touch but changed direction at the last second to stay on the field and score for Salmo, which was converted again by Philip Moore. Cill Dara kept the pressure on and scored a converted try to regain the lead.
With 2 minutes to go, the ball was played out to number 7, Conor Wolfe who found himself on the wing. It looked as if he was going to be forced into touch before a magical offload took out four Cill Dara players and that man again, David Cron scored underneath the posts. Zach Saunders scored the conversion.
Despite a nervy few minutes after kick off, the lads held out to win their first trophy for the club.
